The purpose of the Ashe County Department of Social Services Internship Program is to provide a high-quality learning experience for higher education level students from various educational institutions and degrees of interest. Internship opportunities are available based on the needs of the Agency and the community and may vary from semester to semester.

Students will have the opportunity to:

• Understand and put into practice the mission, goals and objectives of the Department of Social Services.
• Learn how social services are applied in one of the following settings: Income Maintenance Services, Adult Services, Children’s Services and/or Family Support Services.
• Be treated as a part of the Department of Social Services team.
• Observe and perform specific job functions related to the unit to which they are assigned.
• Participate in agency-wide meetings as well as team meetings within their unit.
• Participate in required agency and / or unit trainings.
• Process information and provide feedback.
